Design: Completed Movie Flyer for Client!
The documentary is an excellent portrayal of Wadie Deddeh, a politican that made a difference in California (he's considered the father of CalTrans) and straddled both sides of the aisle to build coalitions and get projects finished.
This is a must see for any political science student or for anyone interested in seeing a profile on one of California's and San Diego's significant political leaders. The documentary is made by award-winning local filmmaker Bonni Rooney.
If you have the chance please support local filmmakers in San Diego and please Buy the DVD at Group Indy's website! : )
I had a great time working on this project and writiing the DVD jacket plot summary (now I'm officially on www.IMDB.com) ...and i'm proud of this flyer too!

Thoughts from a museum article
Read this great commentary by Michael Kimmelman
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/03/arts/design/03abroad.html?_r=1
This is a great question, and the article has over 200 comments within minutes of its posting.
This article inspired me to write about a memory of mine (and some thoughts):
I once visited the Met in New York while I was there for a short business trip. I didn't have much time to visit - maybe an hour or so - and I was briskly walking throught the exhibts trying get a sense of the various exhibits.
On my way through a foyer to an exhibit, I looked up briefly at a copper mask made in greece, the date said it was made in 700 BC and it struck a chord with me immediately. The mask was forged 2700 years ago and made its way to New York. As I rush around trying to see the "important" meaningful artifacts, this one somehow jumped out at me fixing its gaze on me and mine on it.
It's easily 10 years later, and I can't forget my moment with the mask (which is "ordinary" compared to the other exhibit pieces in the museum) and the one instance when this item somehow connected with me. For some reason the grand scale of its travels stuck a chord with me along with it's journey through time and space. I wondered how it was made?, did a person wear it? or was it made for decorateive purposes? How did it get here? For such a short moment, it surely made an impression and I'm intrigued why it did.
The feeling I get whenever I think of that experience is a good one and it's slightly unexplainable. I remember it like I found an old
friend or a familiar item from my childhood.
I think that a person's life experience informs their visual preferences and in my case, this copper-blue patina mask fit my visual preferences.
It's odd how an article like this can stir up these memories.

2009 San Diego Comic-Con - At the moment
I'm sitting in a huge (but quiet) room, with a small group of people having a conversation with Jim Lee as he sketches and talks about his career and drawing. This guy has been around for 23 years and is friendly and warm and chatting it up.
150,000 people left early and missed one of the most memorable seminars of the Con.
THE best way to end the weekend!

2009 San Diego Comic-Con - The Sketch!
One of the Con's strengths as an event is there is a good chance you'll meet one of your favorite artists in person. (See previous posts for possible downside)
In myu opinion, a sketch is better that any book you can buy. You get to see the act of creation right in front of you and you have an original piece of art in its simplest form.
Thanks to Lewis Trondheim!

2009 San Diego Comic-Con - Small Press area
Anyway, this is one of my favorite areas. The small press area has about 100 indy artists that are trying to promote their books, they have comics, mini comics, buttons, posters and anyhting else you can think of!
This is a must visit to see some young artists trying to make their way.

2009 San Diego Comic-Con - Google
Even Google is part of the action (thanks Google for the free wifi, and blog, and email, etc.). www.google.com
Although not modeled after my family (who are awesome). I have a corporate model I'm working on: Sometimes I call Microsoft my "corporate father" (stern, unforgiving, authoritative) and Starbucks my "corporate mother" (nurturing, comfortable, help start your day off right). So, I've come to the conclusion that I think Google is my "corporate uncle" (kinda cool, thinks he knows a lot, does a little bit of everything).
What do you think? Who are your corporate parents?
2009 San Diego Comic-Con - The Stargate!
My bro and I are fans and tried to get a photo of us, but the kind person taking the photo had shaky hands and it turned out blurry. We're trying again today.
The exhibit hall was packed, as the free comic suggested, Green Lantern is the popular superhero of the con (that dude's everyywhere!). I got into the "chase the freebee mode" I'll post my findings later. : )
